SUMMARY:Lecture on Frances Caulkins
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Harris Sisters Month at Otis Library in Norwich\, NLCHS is sponsoring a lecture on Frances Caulkins by Nancy Steenburg. \nNancy will be speaking about Frances Manwaring Caulkins\, both about Caulkins’s life and work in Norwich\, but more specifically about her involvement in the abolition movement in Norwich\, where she was the first president of the Norwich Female Anti-Slavery Society. \nNancy has worked at the University of Connecticut\, Avery Point campus since 1996. She is currently the Associate Director of Academic Advising and Assistant Director of the Bachelor of General Studies program and an adjunct history professor. She teaches upper-level history classes at UConn\, including “History of Connecticut” and “Social and Cultural History of Connecticut and New England.”  Nancy currently serves as the president of the Connecticut Coalition for History and the editor of Connecticut History Review\, the only scholarly journal on Connecticut History.

DESCRIPTION:The Shaw Mansion is a scheduled stop on the Homeless Hospitality Center’s Walk to end Homelessness.   \nThe Walk raises awareness about homelessness in southeastern Connecticut and also raises support for the programs of the Homeless Hospitality Center in New London.\n​\nIt is organized by HHC and students from Connecticut College’s Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy.
